The History of Parow North
Fifty eight years ago, in 1966, the mammoth task rested on the shoulders of the first principal, Mr M C Jacobs and six teachers, to expand the newly established Parow North Primary School, and securing its position as an asset to the community of Parow North.
There is a saying in English:
"mighty oaks from little acorns grow", meaning, of course, that great things can come from small beginnings. This is true, not only of our school itself, but, more importantly, of the many learners who have passed through its doors over the last 58 years.
It is difficult to imagine what the world was like for the first teachers and learners who entered Parow North Primary School 58 years ago.
The classrooms of the 1960s have changed dramatically, and long gone are the "chalk and talk" days! Our school system was engineered a century ago, to produce a workforce for a world that no longer exists. Neither do we just serve the community of Parow North anymore. Our learners are now living in a global society, where information is instantaneous, and the demand for quality education, as a pathway to better career opportunities, and quality of life, has never been higher.
Much has changed over the years at Parow North Primary School. However, one constant that has not changed, is the importance of education in making a " real difference" to lives. Therefore, we must aim always to give our learners the best possible start in life, to equip them with not only the education, but also the life skills they will need to see them through the rest of their lives.
This is never an easy task, of course, but there will be, and there always will be, change and challenge ahead for us, such is the nature of life. I wonder what education will look like in another 58 years, given the changes over the past 58 years, but, rest assured, the quality of education, with its innovation, creativity, opportunities, values and standards, will not diminish here at Parow North Primary School.
Therefore, it is our dream that, in the years to come , we will continue to build on the strong fundamentals.
To appreciate that what we are blessed with at Parow North Primary School, we must acknowledge the important historical foundation that was laid.
